ABOUT İNEGÖL 


HİSTORY OF İNEGÖL


The earliest known name of İnegöl: Roman Period; Angelcoma, The Ottoman Period; Aynagöl, Ezinegöl.
It is believed that İnegöl plain was under water in the past, therefor, İnegöl name was used which meant Lakeshore or Waterfront.

İnegöl has a 5000 years of history. Historical findings about İnegöl dates back to 3000 B.C.

THE ECONOMY OF İNEGÖL

70 % of the population engages in industry and trade, 30% in farming. The number of active employers is 3191. Because of its substantial forests, the people of İnegöl who made a living off with animal husbandry and agriculture for long years, started to manufacture forestry products by the year 1926.We can analyze İnegöl’s development in two periods: the first one is the period before 1980s. Being situated outskirts of mount Uludağ and surrounded by forests, İnegöl turned itself into a city which manufacture mostly forestry products. While initial production was focused on every kind of wooden items, the production shifted completely to furniture manufacturing by the 1950s in small workshops. The second period covers after the year 1980. The progress in industry of İnegöl gained speed, especially with the effect of the Organized Industry Region.

Since 1980, In addition to the wooden industry, mostly textile and other industries started to establishing factories in İnegöl. During the last decade, small workshops which operate in furniture manufacturing, started establishing big factories and all are in the process of becoming a worldwide known brands in their sectors. As the fırst district Organized Industry Region in Turkey was found in 1976. One of the 15 trade and agriculture chamber was found in İnegöl in 1888. The sectors which provide employment in İnegöl are wooden, furniture and textile industries. There are approximately 100 factories in the Organized Industry Region which provide jops to around 12 thousand. The recently established the 2nd Organized Industrial Region at İnegöl is also the fırst example in Turkey to specialize on a sector which is furniture. İnegöl furniture became famous and is sold all over the world. MODEF furniture fair is organized twice a year in İnegöl. 
İnegöl is ranked 18th for exporting goods in Turkey, leaving many big cities behind. While the value of exports reached to 1 billion USD, the number of countries İnegöl exported to, is 110. 1% of Turkey’s exports, 15% of Turkey’s furniture export and 4% of domestic furniture demand are provided by İnegöl. 
İnegöl’s share in textile export in Turkey is 6%. Another economic activity is agriculture in İnegöl. Tomatoes, potatoes, leek, strawberry, peach, pear, apple are among the fruit and vegetable produced in İnegöl. Same at them such as peach, pear, and apple are exported. İnegöl is also famous for its sunflower as snack. İnegöl furniture with its domestic wholesale furniture and exports to 90 countries, is becoming the furniture capital of Turkey through its more than 100 years worth of experience in the sector. Today 15% of Turkey’s furniture exports is done by İnegöl. While developing its corporate culture industrialization and its brands, the furniture sector gained further speed with MODEF furniture fair in quality management and marketing. Inegöl also sealed its stamp as “ Turkey’s Fation İnegöl Furniture”

MİNERAL WATERS

Sultan Abdulaziz’s stomachache caused Çitli mineral water to be known by the public. Sultan was suffering of stomachache, therefore doctors recommended the sultan to drink mineral water. 
Mineral water was brought from differet cities in turkey but Çitli mineral water provided the best cure. Çitli Mineral water earned the fırst place among the mineral water competition in Turkey and 9 gold medals in the USA of America and Europ. As the Çitli mineral water volume degreased in its source another nearby mineral water called Kınık gained popularity. 

OTHER MİNERAL WATERS

There are other minerals such as Elmaçayır and Kozulca which are curative for nephritic diseases, Özlüce for stomachache and intestine, Konurlar for goiter disease, a mineral water resource within 1km distance to Oylat for eye diseases, Eskikaracakaya for various skin diseases.

EDUCATION

İnegöl science high school recorded in history as the fırst science high school which was founded in a province and its district together. There are approximately 55,000 students in inegöl. The biggest college of Uludağ University which provides training in 10 branches for 1850 students is also in İnegöl.


HEALTH
The state hospital of İnegöl has the capacity of 320 beds. There are 14 community clinics in İnegöl, 9 of them are in the city center.

TOURİSM

Oylat hotspring are the cornerstone of İnegöl tourism. To reach Oylet, Domaniç exit which is on the Bursa- Eskişehir highway is taken. The hot spring is supplied with the snow water of mount Uludağ and surrounding resources. This hot spring belongs to the radioactive hot springs group with its 40,5 ᵒC degree. Oylat hot spring are known to be good for rheumatic diseases, poliomyelitis and urology diseases. Also a formation at the entry of Oylat is a place to see which is an old fault line and so- called sharp rock among the public.

OYLAT CAVE

According to the conducted research, 56 large and small caves were discovered. 12 of them were approved as valuable by the Culture and Tourism Ministry and registered officially. Living marks which belonged to the past were found in some of those caves. One of the valuable touristic place is Oylat cave which is located in the distance of 2km down Oylat (It is also known as Bursa Cave). This cave is the 3th biggest cave in Turkey with its 750m length. There are a great number of stalactites, dickites, columns, dripstones and walls. Oylat cave was named Bursa Cave because of the folkwisdom that there was a secret path from the cave to Bursa.

İSHAKPAŞA OTTOMAN COMPLEX
İshakpşa ottoman Complex consists of a mosque, a madrasah and a tomb which is located in the marketplace in İnegöl. İshakpaşa Complex occupies an important place as being a unique living example of the 15th century Ottoman- Turkish architecture for reflecting Bursa style architecture.

CUMA MOSQUE ( BEYAZITHAN MOSQUE)
Cuma Mosque is next to İshakpaşa Madrasa. It was built by Sultan Yıldırım Beyazıt in 1398- 1402.

KURŞUNLU HANÇERLİ FATMA SULTAN MOSQUE
The research shows that it was built in the late 14th century. Fatma Sultan Mosque is the oldest building in İnegöl from the Ottoman Period. It was restorated several times in the tast.

KARACABEY CARAVANSARY
Karacabey caravansary, 5km away from İnegöl, was built by Karacabey in 1454 on his land given as a fief by the Sultan.

WHO İS KARACABEY?
Karacabey is one of the prominent statesmen during the periods of Sultan Murat the 2nd and Sultan Fatih ( The Conqueror) who was also a governor of Rumelia and whose charitable buildings still remain standing as historical monuments.

CAFERPAŞA CARAVANSARY
The former name of caravansary was Caferpaşa Caravansary which is known Beylik Han nowadays.

BEDESTEN ( COVERED BAZAAR)
The Covered Bazaar was built by the Mayor Sadıkzade Süleyman in the period of Sultan Abdulhamid the 2nd in 1887-88.

HİSTORİCAL TURKİSH HOUSES
Most of the Turkish houses dates back to 19 and 20 century. Only 250 of them remained standing until today.

İNEGÖL MİLİTARY BAND
Inegöl Military Band is the first civil military band in Turkey. It was established in 1959 by the mayor Kemal Özak as a municipality band. The band with the support of Mayor Ahmet Akyollu became an association whose members are municipality personnel.

İNEGÖL MEATBALL

İnegöl meatball (grilled on charcoal) dates back to a Turkish family who migrated to Turkey from Bulgaria toward the end of 19th century. Besler family was also known as “meatball makers” in the Pazarcık district of Filibe (Plovdiv in Bulgarian) in Bulgaria. İbrahim Besler, who was the son the family, continued the family business in Turkey after the family migrated. The meatball that İbrahim Besler made became popular through the chefs who passed through İbrahim Besler’s kitchen and became known as İnegöl meatball.

İnegöl meatball is a registered trade mark through the Turkish Patent Institute and the trade mark document is published on the Turkish Official Gazette thanks to the İnegöl Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

İnegöl meatball’s taste comes from a special mix of beef and lamb who is raised in the İnegöl area.

How to prepare İnegöl meatball:
1 kg medium beef, 250 gr. Medium lamb or sheep (foreshank or leg should not be used), 15 gr. carbonate, 15 gr. salt, 2 onions, some crumb (inner part of bread). Lamb and beef are mixed and grounded once through the machine. After adding salt and carbonate, contineu mixing the meat until it becomes soft. Next, the meat is rested for 24 hours in the refrigerator. After 24 hours, the meat is taken out and shaped in meatball and grilled on charcoal. İnegöl meatball tastes delicious when served along with long green pepper, tomato and piyaz (bean salad).

İNEGÖL CİTY MUSEUM

İnegöl City Museum is the first museum that is opened in a district in Turkey. All materials were donated from the people who lived or have been living in İnegöl. Historical former municipal building was restorated for the museum. The museum is located across one of the early examples of the Ottoman artitechture, Sadrazam İshakpaşa Külliyesi. In addition to the historical environment, the tea shop that is surrounded with very old plain trees across the museum form a nice environment for visitors.
